After several month’s of troubled pre-production, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 is officially cancelled. Raimi is quoted as having said that he couldn’t make the dealine for the film’s release, and that, it simply wasn’t happening for him creatively. My first response is relief, as I really disliked his treatment of the story in the third movie and I thought that he was simply the wrong choice for the director of the series. Columbia pictures then quickly announced that another Spider-Man movie will still be made but that it will be a reboot of the franchise with an entirely new cast of actors as well as a fresh production team and director. The new movie will find Peter Parker in high school again and may be a live-action take on the Ultimate Spider-Man line of comics. The new movie is set for a summer 2012 release that will go along with the recently announced Star Trek 2 in July of that year. It’s going to be a busy year, that 2012!
