The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec

I’m a huge fan of Luc Besson’s film ‘The Fifth Element’ so when I heard that he has a new film about ready to be released, I had to post something about it. Besson’s new film is entitled ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec’ and is based on a graphic novel series of the same name. People online are essentially referring to this film (and character) as the female version of Indiana Jones but I feel as though that leaves out the most important facet of this film. Indiana Jones never encountered a Dinosaur where clearly (as shown in the trailer above) Adele Banc-Sec has — clearly making her superior according to my standards. The movie also has a talking mummy. Need I say more? Between this and ‘The Horde’ France is awesome.

  1. It’s hard to see what the target audience for this film should be. Sometimes it is all so silly that you could be forgiven to think this is one for the kids, and yet the use of the voice over and the actual structure of the story both seem to aim at a much more mature type of audience (and let’s not even mention the completely gratuitous nudity, which is just baffling and really pointless).
In the end it is very hard to take any of that seriously or to care for any of the characters.
    I’m afraid it’s just style over substance…
