Hot off the press, the BBC and showrunner Russel T. Davies have announced that Torchwood will return for a 4th 10 episode series. The new series will be a co-production between BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide, and the US network Starz Entertainment. Most importantly, both John Barrowman and Eve Myles will be reprising their roles as Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. Part of the series will be filmed in Wales but also will be reportedly be filming in locations all over the world and will feature several new characters, with the cultural differences between the new team members being a key aspect of the plot. Davies has also commented that like the previous series Children of Earth last year, the new series of Torchwood is likely to be a long story which Davies says will have a “most remarkable conclusion” at the end of the 10 episode run.
Although no broadcast date has been officially set, Torchwood Series 4 is expected to air in summer 2011, perhaps following the broadcast of next year’s sixth series of Doctor Who. Sounds like a good line up to me.
