Studio Bones Announces ‘Star Driver’ TV Anime (Updated)

Studio Bones of Full Metal Alchemist fame has just announced that it will be producing a new original television anime entitled Star Driver: Radiant Takuto. The production staff is full of big names: The director of Soul Eater and Ouran High School Host Club Takuya Igarashi will be directing the project and he is backed up by script writer Yoji Enokido (who wrote for Gunbuster), The Full Metal Alchemist character designer and animator Yoshiyuki Ito is overseeing the animation production and the The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi composer Satoru Kousaki is scoring the soundtrack.

Bones is of course handling the animation production on top of this list of accomplished creators so I’m very excited about this announcement and I expect big things from the series. The show will be a science fiction mecha program and will be an original story, not being based on any prior manga or novel. Bones currently have two programs airing at the moment, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Heroman.

Brotherhood has been an excellent adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s original manga and will be concluding on July 4th with episode 64. Heroman is a collaboration with Stan Lee, the creator of many popular Marvel Comics characters, and although a well-animated program I just couldn’t get into the story as much as I would have liked. Maybe I’ve gotten too old. Either way, Bones hadn’t made any announcements for anything big after the ending of the current Full Metal Alchemist series so I was feeling that it was about time for them to announce something else.

Currently, there is no release date for Star Driver and I will update this post with the promo image that is floating around of the series when a good scan becomes available.
