Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall

The follow-up to Millar and Romita Jr.’s popular 8-issue series will begin on September 15th. This new series arrives shortly after the home video release of the feature film as well.

The new story will focus on Kick-Ass and Hit Girl getting back into the crime-fighting scene after getting their asses kicked in the last issue of the original series. Here’s the quote from Millar:

“When you ask that very simply, he would probably say, ‘You know what? I’m not a tremendous fighter. I’m a little bit skinny. I’ll got to the gym. I’ll learn how to fight a little more. I’ll learn karate.’ So now he’s got Hit-Girl training him up, and then as these guys start to appear online who are dressed in costumes, they talk about forming gangs and superhero teams.”

“It’s really simply what would happen next. They’re just kids, really. Kick-Ass in this book is about 17, and Hit-Girl is 12. They’re just excited about doing what they’ve always wanted to do, and they don’t feel any sense of responsibility for all this even though it’s quite an irresponsible thing that they’re doing every night.”

There is no word yet how long this new series will run but I’m not holding my breath for the ending of this sequel as numerous setbacks caused the first series to be delayed to no end in its inital release.

Production on Kick-Ass 2 will probably run into delays due to John Romita Jr. also being on full-time penciling duty for Marvel’s recent Avengers reboot. Millar is also stating that the film sequel to Kick-Ass has also been green-lighted due to high home Blu-ray and DVD sales.

    • The first comic is worth reading but I felt as though it was lacking the humor that the film had right up to the end. It’ll be interesting to see where the respective movie and comic storylines go though.
