A television advert for the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen PSP fighting has just been released. It teases the viewer with brief snippets of newly animated versions of famous scenes from the original manga while showing gameplay footage. It seems that the game primarily focuses on the Kyoto Arc of the manga series but I did see Enishi shown briefly in the above trailer so I guess there is at least some content in the game devoted to the largely un-animated Jinchuu Arc.
I have no idea whether or not the game is any good but it is nice to see something being done for the 15th anniversary of the television anime. I can’t believe its been that long! Here’s to hoping that the celebration isn’t just limited to a single PSP game.
Update 1/26/11: I found a much longer promotional video for the game which I’ve uploaded. It goes over the characters and gameplay in more detail. It seems the most interesting of all the extras that come with the game is the inclusion of a newly animated opening video that depicts all of the principle characters as well as some of the more popular battle scenes.
There is a quick shot of Yukishiro Enishi in the trailer but the game itself seems to include material from the Tokyo and Kyoto arcs. Even in the video game adaptations the final Jinchuu arc is always ignored. It would be a very nice treat if they decided to fully animate that story for the 15th anniversary of the television animation.
