As with the english-subtitled trailer for the upcoming live-action Attack on Titan film, Madman Entertainment has posted a trailer for the upcoming film Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Masashi Kishimoto, author of the original Naruto manga, is helping write the screenplay for the new film.
Kishimoto is currently putting out a ten-chapter Naruto spin-off manga entitled Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring which features the cast which is set to appear in the new Boruto film; although I’m not sure yet if the film precedes the events in the manga spin-off or not.
For those going to the film in Japan on August 7th, you’ll be able to pick a limited edition movie book which includes chapter 700 of the original manga in full color as well as a brand-new chapter entitled “The Day Naruto became a Hokage”.
I’m sure if the new Boruto film is popular enough we’ll be seeing more adventures in this new era after the end of the manga. Although I’m tempted to say that this is just dragging out a series that has already been long enough, I’ve been really enjoying the Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring spin-off manga and the trailer for Boruto looks very exciting. After seeing Naruto work so hard to be Hokage, it is a really satisfying to see him and the rest of the old cast all grown-up and in charge.
Although the Boruto film has yet to be licenced for a North American release, you can read Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring from Viz’s english edition of Shonen Jump here.
(Update): So just a few hours after I posted this, Viz Media has announced that they’ve got the rights to the Boruto film and will premiere it at this year’s New York City Comic Con.
