In a press conference that was live-streamed around the world last night, Sunrise revealed it’s newest Gundam TV series: Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The new series will start on October 4th and will feature a Gundam that will ‘evolve in stages’ along with the characters who discover it.
The central Gundam for the series will be named ‘Gundam Barbatos’ and will be discovered as a relic from a war 300 years earlier. Other mecha’s in the series can be cannibalized for parts to upgrade the Gundam Barbatos and it will grow in power as the story progresses. The director of the series, Tatsuyuki Nagai, previously worked with Mari Okada (who is providing series composition) on the series Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, so I am looking forward to Iron-Blooded Orphans to provide me with not only exciting mecha battles but also an emotionally traumatizing story.
Of course, a whole line of High Grade kits have been announced for release in the fall as well as a 1/100 Gundam Barbatos kit.
