After a two-week break, the Champions are back with a new episode covering the ongoing anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s The Heroic Legend of Arslan manga series. Arakawa is the author of the Full Metal Alchemist series and the popular farming manga Silver Spoon. Arakawa’s Arslan series is itself based on the novel series of the same name written by Yoshiki Tanaka that has been ongoing since 1986. Tanaka is also well-known for being the author of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes, a famous space opera which spawned a successful long-running anime adaptation of its own.
The original story and manga could not come from more esteemed creators, but what of this new animated series? The Champions go into this review full of memories from Bones’s popular TV adaptations of Full Metal Alchemist and perhaps set a wall that is too high for even all of the armies of Arslan’s world to climb.
Listen and find out what the verdict is for the first five episodes!
This episode also marks the start of a special summer batch of 2D Champions episodes which will all be released this week. The next three episodes that will be released this week as part of the summer blitz will cover Dragon Ball Super (with a special guest), Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma, and Gangsta.
