Lego Ideas Doctor Who Set Revealed

full set

It’s been a long time since Lego shared any details about it’s upcoming Doctor Who set ever since they announced that AndrewClark2’s custom set had received 10,000 supporters and had been approved. Since the initial announcement that Lego would make Doctor Who a part of their Ideas line we’ve had all of the excitement around the inclusion of Doctor Who in the new Lego Dimensions video game. Now, after months of silence and teaser images, Lego has officially released details and images of the new Ideas set.

The LEGO Ideas 21304 Doctor Who set will include the 11th and 12th Doctors, Clara Oswald, two Daleks, and a Weeping Angel. The set itself features the console room of the TARDIS as well as a removable section that can be formed into a nice stand-alone TARDIS or be used as the doors exiting (or entering) the control room. The set will have over 600 pieces in total and is priced at $59.99 USD. The release date for the set is December 1st. If you are interested in this set, it would be wise to keep a keen eye on when it goes on sale as it’s sure to sell out quickly.

A nice added bonus is that the minifigure of the 12th Doctor included in the Lego Ideas set will be different than the version included in the Lego Dimensions Level pack. If you pick up both Doctor Who Lego Dimensions packs, you can add K-9, a Cyberman, a mini-Dalek, and a mini-Tardis to your Lego Doctor Who collection.

The minifigures look excellent and I like the way Lego has interpreted the console room and the TARDIS into a reasonably-priced set. I am still hoping for the announcement for a full Doctor Who Lego theme, but for now this will do nicely!

Doctor Who Series 9 Trailers

The ninth series of Doctor Who begins airing on BBC One and BBC America on September 19th. I completely forgot to post here when the first trailer for the series dropped last month but with the recent release of a second trailer, I figured it was another chance to update Teatime with it’s first Doctor Who post in several years.

It’s a little hard for me to believe that 2015 is the tenth anniversary of the 2005 ‘rebirth’ of Doctor Who. It feels like only a short time since I was upset about Chistopher Eccelston regenerating into David Tennant at the end of the first series. Ten years and several Doctors later, the show is more popular than ever here in the United States (and presumably, in the UK as well) and Peter Capaldi has managed to win me over completely as the new Doctor. Also, I’ve gotta say that I have been enjoying the writing on Capaldi’s episodes much more than the majority of Matt Smith’s tenure as the Doctor.

Here’s to looking forward to the new series and the promise of Gallifrey’s return sometime in the future…

Doctor Who Series 6 Trailer and Air Date

BBC America has announced that Doctor Who shall return to American television screens for a further six episodes on August 27th at 9pm. Coupled with this announcement was a very exciting trailer for the final half of series 6 featuring The Silence, Weeping Angels, and Cybermen.

No tears at the end of this current series of Doctor Who we still have series 2 of Steven Moffat’s Sherlock to anticipate later this fall as well as the traditional Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Hopefully this time around we learn the secret of the astronaut and the Doctor’s ‘death’….

New Doctor Who Trailer is the Definition of Awesome

With the impending release of Doctor Who Series 6 on April 23rd the BBC and BBC America have released two new trailers for the program.

A press night was held last night in England featuring a screening of the first two episodes in the new series The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon which immediately caused an explosion of excellent reviews from the British press.

Until the 23rd I’ll be doing my best to avoid all the spoilers I can for the opening story…

Doctor Who ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ Prequel (Updated)

Creepy!

This ‘prequel clip’ serves as a lead-in to the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who airing this easter. The clip features the new monsters in the series called ‘The Silence’. A new trailer for Series 6 is expected early next week and a new ‘iconic image’ will be made available this saturday as a wallpaper from the official Doctor Who website.

Update: Added the new ‘iconic image’ that the BBC made available just a few minutes ago.

New Doctor Who Series 6 Teaser

A new teaser trailer for the premiere episode of Series 6 entitled ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ has been shown on BBC1. Although the advert itself is quite short and provides very little new information about the story what makes this teaser interesting is that the same advert was shown on BBC2 but it features something new standing behind the Doctor in his reflection:

The creature behind him is most likely The Silence and is the primary monster of the opening two-parter. A short prequel mini-episode to the opening story as well as a longer ‘coming soon’ trailer is expected by early next week.

Doctor Who Red Nose Day Special

Above are the two special mini-episodes of Doctor Who shown on BBC1 for Red Nose Day. The two mini-episodes entitled ‘Space’ and ‘Time’ are both written by head writer Steven Moffat. I am also including the previous Red Nose Day special of Doctor Who also written by Steven Moffat and featuring Rowan Atkinson as the Doctor!

Doctor Who Series 6 Release Date Announced

The release date for the new 6th series of Doctor Who has been revealed on a promotional poster for the program by BBC America.

BBC America had previously announced that the new block of Doctor Who episodes would air in the United States the same day as they do in England. It’s a little funny then that the American branch of the BBC would announce the broadcast date before the BBC proper could in Britain.

The new sixth series of Doctor Who will be split into two parts this year — the first half airing this spring and the remaining episodes will be broadcast this autumn. The new series is expected to reveal the true identities of River Song and the Silence.

Doctor Who Comic Relief Special Announced (Updated)

With the 6th series of Doctor Who looming over the horizon, the BBC announced that there will be a special 6-minute mini-episode aired during the Comic Relief special on British television later this month.

The story is top-secret but involves another TARDIS materializing inside the regular TARDIS and the appearance of another Amy Pond. Sounds great to me!

The official start date for Series 6 has still yet to be announced but is expected sometime in late April. The Doctor Who Comic Relief Special airs on Friday March 18th at 7PM on BBC1. No word yet on an American broadcast of the special.

Update: SFX Magazine has some information from Steven Moffat himself about the upcoming special.

“It’s not a spoof. It’s in the style of the ones that we’ve done for Children In Need, so it’s taken seriously as a proper bit of Doctor Who – funny, but not a sketch. A little miniature story.

“There’s a moment with two Amy Ponds in it. If you’re a red-blooded male surely that’s enough! You’ve got Amy Pond flirting with herself.

“I think they’re really good, really very funny. It’s Matt, Karen and Arthur, and there isn’t a guest character. It’s just the three of them. A moment of life aboard the TARDIS. But obviously life about the TARDIS instantly gets you into terrible jeopardy, and all of causality is threatened.”

First Look At BBC1’s Outcasts

Just this last sunday BBC1 aired the first teaser trailer for their upcoming science fiction drama Outcasts. The 40 seconds of footage above looks pretty solid and although a date for the premiere has yet to be announced it is safe to say that this looks promising. With new episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood currently filming it seems as though there is quite a bit to look forward to in science fiction this year.
