The Champions are schooled in the horrors of both war and an existential struggle against a powerful deity in their review of the first five episodes of the ‘Saga of Tanya the Evil’ (Yojou Senki). Based on the popular light novel series by Carlo Zen and Shinobu Shinotsuki, ‘Tanya’ gives us the dramatic story of a sociopathic salaryman who finds himself fighting against the fate handed to him by a God that’s hungry for attention and prayer. At once a satire as well as a tale of military tactics, does ‘Tanya’ bite off more than it can chew? Or can it prove it’s worth to the Champions? Listen and find out!

The Champions return to a world full of explosions, giant frogs, and useless goddesses in our review of the first five episodes of Konosuba season 2. The first season of Konosuba was a refreshingly funny hit in the midst of an endless stream of shows featuring the tired trope of a useless nerd boy appearing in a RPG-inspired fantasy world full of cute girls and quests. Can season 2 of Konosuba keep the Champions under it’s spell? Or has this series already used up all of it’s magic? Listen and find out!

Animation studio GAINAX has been saying the past few months that it has been working on another more ‘refined’ work alongside the upcoming show Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt and today the first details of this second project have been announced.
The new project is an adaptation of Gakuto Mikumo’s light novel series Dantalian no Shoka. The story revolves around a boy in 1920’s London who encounters a girl who is responsible for the forbidden books of demonic wisdom.
I am usually quite skeptical of Gainax adapting stories from previous works as they tend not to not be as high quality as their original projects (with some exceptions like His and Her Circumstances) but one of the founders of Studio Gainax, Hiroyuki Yamaga, has previously announced that he would be personally directing this work so that makes me alot more optimistic about the project. No release date has been announced yet for either Dantalian no Shoka or Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt but I’m really excited to see how these two very different projects will turn out.
I’ll update this post later when I can find some good scans of the announcement article for Dantalian no Shoka. From Anime News Network.
